Nearly 4 million college students are doing are raining kids while going to school — that's about a fifth of all undergraduates. Student parents are mostly women (about 70 percent) they are more likely to be from low-income families and students of color. In fact, 2 in 5 black women in college are mothers, and the majority of them are single.
“We wanted to shine a light on this subject because it's something that's kind of hidden away," says Raizel Febles, 14. "You kind of are ashamed for having it, which sucks because it's something so natural and so normal."
Chile has made college tuition-free - through a policy called gratuidad — after years of angry public protests about escalating tuition and student loan debt and the gulf in quality between the institutions attended by the wealthiest and the poorest students.
It's a version of "free college" along the lines of what many in the United States are talking about — including several Democratic candidates for president.
